Chilufya Kapungwe – Aug 22,2009

DEFORESTATION is considered one of the priority environmental problems in Zambia while woodland conversion to agriculture and wood harvesting for charcoal production seem to be the main causes of forest loss. Statistics show that 57.1 per cent or about 42,452,000 hectares of the country’s land is forested. It is because of the above problems that an organisation called the Imiti Ikula Empanga Environment and Development Organisation (IIEEDO) was established in 2007. IIEEDO executive director Chilufya Kapwepwe will join us to discuss the impact and solution of deforestation.
