ZAMNET Takes the Broadband Market in Zambia by Storm With Navini

RICHARDSON, Texas and LUSAKA, Zambia, May 17 /PRNewswire/ —

ZAMNET Communication Systems, the pioneering Internet Service Provider in Zambia, is staying at the cutting edge of technology with its recently introduced wireless broadband service supplied by Navini Networks, the global leader in providing plug-n-play personal broadband wireless access solutions.

The freedom of wireless coupled with high-speed access, is really changing the way customers are using the Internet. Customers now have flexibility as to where and when they connect to the Internet, no longer needing to worry about having a fixed telephone line before they can get an Internet account.

Currently, ZAMNET’s unwired broadband service is available in most parts of Lusaka, except for the far side of Makeni and Chilanga. The service is also available in Kitwe and parts of Kalulushi.

ZAMNET plans to cover most of Lusaka and Kitwe by the second half of 2007. Plans are underway to introduce the service in other towns on the Copperbelt.

“This is the first truly mobile Wireless Broadband internet solution on the Zambian market,” said ZAMNET’S Managing Director, Ms. Chishala Kateka. “This means that the towns that have this solution have become ‘hotspots’ for users within ZAMNET’S coverage areas. Users will be able to have access to their high speed broadband wherever and whenever they want.”

“Navini’s pre-mobile WiMAX solution is perfect for ZAMNET,” said Roger Dorf, Navini’s president and CEO. “This is yet another operator in Africa that is embracing the concept of personal broadband with 802.16e WiMAX.”

ZAMNET’s ‘unwired Broadband(R)’ solution is non-line-of-sight, zero-install, portable and mobile. It has never been easier. This means that a customer can buy the ‘Rabbit’ (the modem) at the store, take it home and simply activate it, like a cell phone.

Service plans are affordable, starting at US$75 and cheaper than waiting for a DSL line.

ZAMNET Communication Systems was established in 1994 as Zambia’s first Internet Service company and one of the first in the sub-Saharan region. Owned by the University of Zambia, ZAMNET provides Internet services through different technologies including wireless, dial-up, V-Sat and DSL. Other value-added services being provided include Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s), Domain Name services, web design and hosting, LAN’s and WAN’s, training and software support. ZAMNET has Points of Presence (PoPs) in Lusaka, Kitwe, Livingstone, Ndola, Mazabuka, Solwezi and Luanshya.

ZAMNET is constantly exploring ways of staying at the cutting edge of technology in order to service the growing demand for broadband services. ZAMNET’s team of highly skilled and innovative professionals helps to achieve the company’s vision of being the leader in the provision of quality Internet, Information and Communication Solutions (ICT’s).

This is a great article and a great move by ZamNet to go wireless. I couldn’t help but notice that no prices were included – how much is the device, how much is subscription. Just to confirm, the local name for the navini device is “rabit”, or is it “rabbit”? I look forward to more reviews,

i would like to know how the subscription fee is per month
