Mufulira female tennis player Thelma Bwalya has won a scholarship to attend school at the Independence Community College in the United States.
Bwalya, a Copperbelt native, who has been playing tennis for a while is due to join the Pirates tennis team in January 2004 next year.
A Zambian journalist based in the US, Matthew Chansa confirmed the development and said Bwalya had since been included on the roster for six first year female students.

Bwalya who occupies second slot on the list is the only African player among the seven women while others have been drawn from Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Spain.
Eight men, non from Africa have also been granted scholarships at the college of which three would be in their first year in January.
